Our hotel is located in the town of Sulzano, on Lake d'Iseo. On the lake is an island (Monte Isola), reachable by ferry. On a day which intentionally is scheduled for us to rest, we have chosen to explore the edges of the lake and the island.
Of course, no one thought to coordinate this with the weather, so the morning was spent watching a storm roll across the area. It was our first day of the trip when the weather didn't present a beautiful day for sightseeing.
After lunch, we took a walk to the train station, pausing to visit the local church (Parish Church of San Georgio). Built in 1726, we were impressed by its baroque facade and bell tower.Reaching the Sulzano station, we didn't have to wait long for the southbound train to Iseo. The town for which the Lake is named, it also host the main and frequent ferry to Monte Isola.
One of the highlights of our outing was following the route of a famous (and well locally publicized) "Floating Piers" project conducted over two weeks in 2016 by Christo and Jean Claude. It attracted one and a half million visitors during its exhibition, who completed their journey at its terminous on San Paolo, the home of the Beretta Gun Company founders..
Returning to our hotel, we relaxed until the Italian siesta ended, and had dinner in-house. To see all of the photos taken today, click on Wednesday, April 10th, Lake d'Iseo, Italy.
