Thursday, April 11th, Trento, Italy

Greetings!

Today was another traveling day.  Eventually leaving Lombardy and ending up in Trento on the Adige River in Trentino-Alto Adige-Sudtirol.  An autonomous province annexed in 1919, i was the site of the Council of Trent in the 16th century.  The Council's objectives were to condemn the principles of Protestantism (Martin Luther's 95 Theses), and to clarify the doctrines of Catholicism.

After a drive to Lake Garda (the largest Lake in Italy), we explored Desenzano del Garza's labyrinthine streets, and castle on the hill overlooking a small harbor. Then, we drove a short distance to the Manestrini Family Olive Oil Mill.

Treated to an extra virgin olive oil tasting before lunch on the grounds, we learned how to taste, and what the characteristics are of fine olive oil.  Afterwards, we shopped for gifts for our families, and snacks for the road.

The afternoon drive to Trento carried us along the eastern shore of Lake Garda and up into the towering peaks of the Dolomites.  Settling into our hotel, we took a walk through the area, and returned for dinner at the hotel.
