Tuesday, April 9th, Lake Iseo, Italy

Greetings!

Today was another traveling day, with a stop in Edolo, where Francesco insured our survival skills by having us order our morning coffee in Italian.  Pat did fine, but I had to refer to our cafe's menu to voice "Vorrei spremuto d'arancia fresca" (I would like fresh squeezed orange juice).

Traveling a couple of hours south, our next stop was the Bersi Serlini Winery, located in Provalglio d'iseo in Franciacorta.  Run by two sisters, from a family of owners since 1886, its chardonnay grapes are picked early to obtain high acid content which is double-fermented into Methode Champenoise (sparkling wine).

A blind tasting (with cool blindfolds) discovering blends featuring citrus aromas, demi-sec, and brut stumped most of us.  An elegant lunch followed, and we were driven to Hotel Ravalgo in nearby Sulzano.  The site of Christo and Jean Claude's Floating Piers in 2016, it serves as the perfect jumping off place to visit (tomorrow) the island in the lake (Monte Isola).
